About Fana Sacco
Fana Youth Saving and Credit Cooperative is a legally licensed primary cooperative society under the Ethiopian proclamation number 985/2016 and regional proclamation number 145/2008. It is regulated by Cooperative Agency of Tigray national regional state. The following is a summary profile of the cooperative.
Our Story
Fana Youth SACCO, established on March 8, 2006, by 92 members with initial savings of 33,180 Birr, is legally registered under Mekelle's cooperative office. It originally held registration number 886, later renewed in 2020 as 80/172 to operate throughout Tigray Region. Since then, it has grown to 36,223 members and 1.2 billion Birr in capital, distributing 2.2 billion Birr in loans to 21,091 members.
To enhance community outreach, FY-SACCO plans to open 93 branches in woreda towns, with 10 branches already operational in zonal cities and 9 new branches plus 26 service centers planned for 2024/25.
In addition to savings and loans, FY-SACCO offers business development, entrepreneurship training, and various skills training. Its governance structure includes a general assembly, board of directors, and several committees.
Recognized for its community impact, FY-SACCO has received awards from the Ethiopian Federal Cooperative Agency and Tigray Region Cooperatives Agency, becoming a model for modern cooperative business in the region.
